Firefighters gathered on Interstate 15 freeway overpasses across Salt Lake and Utah counties Tuesday afternoon to honor Fire Captain Spencer Long and his family.

Long, his wife Katherine and their sons were killed during a flash flood in Wayne County on Friday, according to authorities.

A procession Tuesday transported their bodies from the state’s medical examiner’s office in Taylorsville to a funeral home in Spanish Fork.

Provo police and firefighters and their families gathered on the edge of the Lakeview Parkway overpass to pay their respects, and a large American flag also hung over the freeway just south of the overpass.

As the procession of fire and police vehicles escorting the bodies passed, first responders on the overpass held a salute to honor the captain.
