Lt. Zach Randall of the Utah Highway Patrol said that at approximately 7:47 a.m. a Ford F-350 was traveling east on U.S. 6 near milepost 203 in a construction zone when the driver attempted to turn around on a two-lane road.
Witnesses said the truck traveled in the wrong lane for roughly 150 feet, where it approached a Chevy Cruz, prompting drivers of both vehicles to swerve to the north side of the road, Randall said. The vehicles collided head-on on the north shoulder.
A female driver and a male passenger sustained critical injuries and were transported by helicopter to a hospital, Randall said.
U.S. 6 closed in both directions while the medical evacuation took place but soon reopened.
