The mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon is seen Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025.U.S. 6 will be reduced to one lane in each direction for a two-mile stretch of Spanish Fork Canyon for the next several months, The Utah Department of Transportation announced Wednesday.
Beginning Friday, the lanes will be closed near Thistle Junction for 24 hours a day, seven days a week until Nov. 15 as crews work on a project designed to reduce the risk of serious crashes, UDOT said.
UDOT is building a new grade-separated interchange at the U.S. 5 and U.S. 89 intersection. Construction is expected to cause moderate delays along the route, particularly during holiday weekends.
“This will slow things down, especially on holiday weekends, and we know that’s frustrating,” UDOT Project Manager Eric Rasband said in a news release. “But getting this project done will save lives. This interchange is built to reduce serious crashes on US-6, and getting it done before winter is critical.”
UDOT said eastbound drivers should expect moderate delays on Friday afternoon and evenings, and westbound drivers should expects delays on Sunday afternoon and evenings. On Memorial Day weekend, UDOT said there will be up to 1.5 hours of delay for eastbound drivers on Friday, May 22, and up to 1.5 hours of delay for westbound drivers on Monday, May 25.
