The City Council has a list of long and short-term goals that are set annually based on input from community stakeholders through public outreach efforts. The input is used to assist in updating the various master plans the City creates for future planning and growth. The master plans include the General Plan; Transportation Masterplan; Parks, Recreation, Trails, and Open Space Masterplan; and other master plans. These guiding documents are updated frequently to reflect the needs of our growing community.

The City Council uses the master plans to set goals for the future of the city. Some of the goals are meeting additional transportation needs, completing and linking existing trails, and providing other city services, such as recreational opportunities and a city cemetery. In 2022, the City has been able to complete and move forward some of the following projects to assist with transportation needs in the community.

Saratoga Springs is a long, narrow city bordering the west side of Utah Lake. Many residents travel throughout the city daily to get to work, school, recreate, and shop. The City has worked with The Mountainland Association of Governments (MAG) to secure funding for additional north/south and east/west transportation corridors in Saratoga Springs.

The City recently completed the first phase of the Pony Express Parkway Extension, extending east from Redwood Road to Saratoga Road. This additional east/west corridor allows access to Pioneer Crossing from Riverside Drive and Saratoga Road to ease traffic on other major corridors. Pony Express will eventually extend further east and anticipate construction of the next phase of this project to begin this coming summer.

In the spring of 2022, we began construction on the extension of Foothill Blvd from Pony Express Parkway to Lariat Blvd. This additional north/south corridor provides a parallel road to Redwood Road giving residents more transportation options. This portion of the project is expected to be completed by fall 2023.

City staff has also been working on connecting existing trail systems. Providing pedestrian access throughout the city. Additional trail has been added along the west side of Foothill Boulevard providing access to the Mountain Bike Park and other trail systems along the west side of the city. We are also working to complete sections along Redwood Road and the Lake trail to provide continuous access to recreational amenities along Utah Lake and the Jordan River along with access to shopping centrally located along Redwood Road.

City staff is working on meeting other goals such as a City cemetery, the northern marina and acquiring additional properties for other city amenities. The Saratoga Springs City Council is working with staff to set and move goals forward that look to the future of Saratoga Springs to continue to make it a great place to live work and play and ensure that life is just better here.
