Provo’s Community Congregational Church to hold rummage sale

Over the past few years, members of the Provo Community Congregational United Church of Christ have been seeking donations and help to keep their historic church in good structural condition.
It will take millions of dollars to do all that is needed to the more than 100-year-old church, located at 175 N. University Ave., but some money has come in enough to help with the leaking roof. While this ongoing project is finding some success, there are still the day-to-day operations that could use a hand up as well.
To that end the church is holding a rummage sale from 5-9 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It will be held in the Fellowship Hall on the west side of the building. The public is invited to attend.
Proceeds from the rummage sale will go toward church operation costs.
The Provo Community Church, as it is known locally, was founded 130 years ago in 1891 by members from varying religious backgrounds coming together for a stronger presence in a growing Utah Valley community. The church has grown from a humble Sunday school class to a well-known historic church and community center in downtown Provo. Today, the church is an open and affirming faith organization and is one of the only places for secular community gatherings in downtown Provo.

The church is known for its engagement with the community and has been a standard bearer for groups like the Food and Care Coalition and the Interfaith Choir. The church also hosts the annual Carols by Candlelight Advent service, which this past Christmas had grown to two nights.
The church is still seeking donations of clothing, electronics, household goods, yard equipment and more for the weekend sale. Donations should be in good condition and working order.
