Fire at LDS motion picture studio in Provo quickly extinguished
PROVO — Fire crews rushed to the LDS Motion Picture Studio near the Brigham Young University campus Tuesday morning when an electrical box on top of the administration building burst into flames.
According to Fire Chief Gary Jolley, a call came into the fire department just after 10 a.m. that flames were spotted on the roof of the building. He said that was when crews quickly responded to capture the flames before they spread.
“We took a fast-action approach,” Jolley said. “Which means we drop a hydrant, put some charge lines up there on the roof and our guys went up there and gassed it out a little bit.”
Jolley said the fire was quickly contained to the electrical box and it did not spread anywhere else on the roof of the building. He observed that if the fire had not been handled in an aggressive manner, it could have escalated quickly, as there were many fire-friendly items located at the motion picture studio.
What caused the electrical box to burst into flames is still under investigation. No firefighters or studio staff were injured in the incident. Workers on the property had been evacuated from their offices while the fire department conducted its investigation of the fire.
“It happened really quick, but we got it managed quickly,” Jolley said. “Our guys did a really good job to get it stopped.”
