Pleasant Grove City is now receiving applications for a new public works director.

“The City is seeking a skilled administrator and strong leader to serve as Public Works Director,” reads the job description posted on the Pleasant Grove City jobs website. “Candidate will need to facilitate a culture of hard work, communication, positive morale and efficiency in working with subordinates, executive team members and elected officials.”

The public works director is vital for managing staff and directing operations within the public works department, as well as overseeing the budget, and working with other city employees to create Pleasant Grove’s Capital Improvement Plan. The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $165,000.

According to Scott Darrington, city administrator for Pleasant Grove, it is vital that the candidate chosen for this position have prior experience in a public works or engineering role, as well as experience in a management capacity. The job description states that ideally, candidates should have a minimum of ten years of experience in public works or engineering, with four of those years in a management position.

“We’d really like someone with previous experience working for a city, ideally in a management role. We need somebody who can manage people but also have a really good understanding of the different facets of a public works department,” Darrington said.

According to the job description, applicants for this position should have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, public administration, or another field related to the position. Technical knowledge in civil engineering is required so that the public works director can communicate effectively with the city’s civil engineers.

“Candidate should have technical knowledge in water, sewer, storm drain and civil engineering principles.” States the job description. “Candidate must also be familiar with municipal development requirements including the coordination between master plans and development proposals.”

The application deadline is Feb. 16. The first round of interviews for this position will be conducted on Feb. 24 with the second round of interviews will be conducted on March 1. Selected candidates must be available for both rounds of interviews.

According to Darrington, Marty Beaumont, the current public works director, will be vacating the position in March to move to a new vocation in the private sector, at which time the chosen applicant will assume the role.

“Pleasant Grove City is a great place to work, we have a good atmosphere here we have a great community,” Darrington said. “We’re looking for somebody that can come and fit in with that. We would love to hear from anybody that has the experience necessary and is willing to come work with us.”
