December’s Downtown Provo Art Stroll on Friday will include a large crèche, or Nativity, display at the Provo Community Congregational United Church of Christ, 175 N. University Ave.

The downtown church will be celebrating the holiday spirit with choral performances, the crèche display, a live and interactive Nativity, bagpipers and refreshments from 6-9 p.m. The event is free to the public.

Choral performances will be held in the historic church’s sanctuary throughout the evening and will include musical groups from Edgemont Elementary School, Latinos in Action, the Wasatch Chorale and Utah Valley Interfaith Choir as well as Timpview High School’s A Capella, Madrigals, Sorella Voce and Bravo choral ensembles. The live Nativity will be located in the courtyard and a large crèche display with more than 130 crèches will be presented in the fellowship hall.

The Art Stroll is a free event that takes place the first Friday every month. Art galleries and restaurants in downtown Provo will also be open in the evening to showcase different forms of art, often including music and refreshments.

The Provo Community Church, as it is known locally, was founded 131 years ago in 1891 by members from varying religious backgrounds coming together for a stronger presence in a growing Utah Valley community. The church has grown from a humble Sunday school class to a well-known historic church and community center in downtown Provo. Today, the church is one of the only places for secular community gatherings in downtown Provo.

Church members and community volunteers are currently raising money to repair, renovate, restore and expand the church to help it continue and amplify its community-driven mission.

“The PCCUCC is grateful to the Provo CAPS program and our assigned group for putting this fun and beneficial Art Stroll event together. The students and their instructor have done an amazing job organizing this holiday event,” said Kena Matthews, church public relations representative.
