U-Talk: What are the best and worst things about Utah County?

“There are great people in Utah County, because they are more down to earth. They are not from Salt Lake. I don’t mean that derogatory. That’s my opinion. People here are a lot nicer. But, the bad part about Utah County is it’s not Salt Lake. The people here are great, but there is just not a lot over here. Other side of the mountain there is a lot more to do than there is in Utah County: restaurants, nightclubs, entertainment.” — Glenn Hamblin, Pleasant Grove

“The worst things are probably the drivers. They don’t pay attention to bikes or anything. The best things I say, there’s a lot of really nice people here. If you look past all of the old people, I think the younger generation is really accepting of everybody, and just nicer to people as a whole. I love living here. I think people make it out to be a bad place in general, but I think that they’re looking for the bad things. I think a lot of people just blame the Mormon culture here, because a lot of people are super judgmental, but it’s not nearly as bad as people think it is.” — Devin Stika, Lindon

“Bad is how busy it is. Too many people in the Orem area. I hate Orem. Just in general, on the roads there is always traffic. Good is obviously the mountains. It’s beautiful and the people are nice.” — Whitney Lewis, Pleasant Grove

“The people. Being able to exchange goods and services with the people and interact, just camaraderie. I’m a business owner, so just being able to get out and talk to families and people, and sell services and products, I think is great. They are just with the family values. There’s a lot of entrepreneurs that are here, and so I think that is a big part of the camaraderie and helping each other and getting the word out for each other. As far as the bad, I think on Sundays I would like to see more stores open. I think that is the only drawback.” — Brandon Coe, American Fork

“I guess the segregation with the whole religion, and minorities being seen a little different than a lot of the other people. I would say yes, that’s the bad part. The good part is that there is just a lot of opportunities for people to grow here. There’s a lot of work, it just seems like there are a lot of opportunities to grow and make something of yourself if that’s what you want to do.” — Yuli Escovedo, Provo
