Sgt. Bill Hooser of the Santaquin Police Department was killed by a semitruck driver on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

Funeral arrangements for Santaquin Police officer Sgt. Bill Hooser are set for next week.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to the Daily Herald that the service will take place at the UCCU Events Center at Utah Valley University in Orem at 10 a.m. Monday.

Hooser was killed in the line of duty Sunday when authorities say 42-year-old Micheal Jayne intentionally hit the officer with a semitruck after fleeing a traffic stop on Interstate 15 in Santaquin.

Jayne eventually was arrested after he reportedly crashed a stolen pickup truck during a police pursuit in Vernal over 150 miles away from where initial incident occurred.

Hooser leaves behind a wife, two daughters and their spouses, and his new granddaughter. In the wake of the tragedy, a crowdfunding account set up to support the officer’s family has amassed over $100,000 since Sunday.

Monday’s funeral will be followed by a procession to the Santaquin cemetery.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony and pay their respects to the fallen officer.
