Vineyard's Children's Library is ready to serve the youngest residents after moving operations on Monday, Oct. 3, 2022.
Vineyard’s young bookworms got a step up on Monday when the city officially reopened the larger Vineyard Children’s Library in its new home.
The Vineyard Children’s Library is now located at 125 S. Main Street. The facility will be housed in the city offices and hours of operation will be expanded to match the open office hours — from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8 a.m. until noon on Friday.
The library, which had only been in operation for a few years, was previously located at 240 E. Gammon Road, and was open only four hours a week.
A team of volunteer librarians were responsible for helping patrons, cataloging donations, checking books in and out and issuing library cards at the old location, according to Kathryn Newman, city communications manager.
Vineyard residents celebrated the new library on Monday with a short ceremony featuring an animal show from the Hutchins Museum Institute and a butterfly release in honor of Monday’s National Butterfly Day.

“Throughout the summer, Vineyard residents were able to participate in a weekly story-time at Vineyard Grove Park as well as ‘Library Plus Day,’ which featured a themed craft or activity on Thursdays. Both initiatives will continue in the new space,” Newman said.
With the impending move to the city offices, Vineyard City has employed two part-time library technicians who will assist patrons as well as perform front desk responsibilities.
In preparation for the early changes, the library’s collection was moved by employees of Utah County on Sept. 8, as part of a service project for United Way’s Day of Caring.
About 40 employees, including Mayor Julie Fullmer, helped move 4,000 books and their respective shelves to the new location. The new location gives the library a larger space and gives residents greater access, since it is open for longer hours.
“There is no cost for a Vineyard Children’s Library card. The library has received small grants for emerging libraries from the Utah State Library to help with some opening and operating costs. Most books have been donated by residents,” Newman said.

Donations by Orem Community Hospital and Stacy and Whitbeck, Inc., have also helped to expand the library’s collection with books on gardening, mental and emotional health and young adults recently being added.
Vineyard residents can access library services through the Utah County Bookmobile, which comes to Vineyard Grove Park every other Monday from 5-7 p.m. Vineyard City also reimburses residents $80 a year for cards from libraries in adjacent municipalities.
