Princesses, super heroes and ghouls to pack downtown Provo
The excitement of dressing up in a favorite costume for Halloween is not only part of growing up in Provo, it’s also a yearly tradition downtown.
All candy-loving ghouls and goblins looking for a monstrous good time need to check out downtown Provo as it hosts its annual Downtown Provo Trick-or-Treating event from 3-6 p.m. Oct. 31.
“There is always an energy and creativity in downtown Provo,” said Quinn Petersen, executive director of Downtown Provo Inc. “Halloween is one of the best times to experience downtown, with local businesses handing out candy from 100 East to 500 West.”
Petersen said the event has grown steadily over the past seven years, with 3,000-5,000 people attending each year. “We are excited to have Provo City participate from their newly opened City Hall.”
For the first time, kids can come to City Hall and share their costume of choice to gather up some candy before they go out to their own neighborhoods that evening.
“Provo City Hall is truly the People’s House and we want every resident to feel welcomed there,” said Mayor Michelle Kaufusi. “Halloween offers a perfect time to interact with those we serve in a fun, engaging way.”
Additional activities include games at City Hall, a dance party at the Utah Valley Convention Center, a designated kid’s festival area and a free book from Pioneer Book.
“Events like this draw a community together,” Petersen said. “As we talk with the business community, residents and city officials, whether they attend the event or not, they hear about it from a friend or see it on social media, and it reinforces downtown Provo as a destination for families.”
