A Saratoga Springs woman was killed Monday morning in a crash involving an Alpine School District school bus.

Police have identified Lauren Scott, 20, of Saratoga Springs, as the casualty of the incident, which took place on Redwood Road in Saratoga Springs. Scott was the passenger in a sedan that was struck by a southbound ASD school bus.

“The school bus is going straight ahead, and the passenger car makes a left-hand turn right in front of the bus,” Chief Andrew Burton with the Saratoga Springs Police Department said. “They were struck by the bus and the passenger in the right-front seat of the car was killed.”

According to Burton, the driver of the car, Caden Simmons, 19, of Saratoga Springs, was attempting to enter the parking lot of the Maverik gas station at 2023 Redwood Road in Saratoga Springs.

Scott and Simmons were the only passengers in the sedan, and Simmons is reported to be in critical but stable condition. The driver of the bus and the four students on board were not injured in the crash.

“There was an accident involving a school bus this morning in Saratoga Springs,” said David Stephenson, the executive director of external relations and communications for ASD. “While we are grateful the initial reports indicate there were no serious injury to the four high school students or driver, our thoughts are with the families and friends of the individuals in the other vehicle.”
