Two Salt Lake County residents were killed Sunday in an Eagle Mountain car crash the Utah County Sheriff’s Office is attributing to road rage.
The man and woman, 48 and 47 respectively, were identified Monday as Rodney Michal Salm and Michaela Himmleberger.
The driver of a Ford F-150 — who has not yet been identified — collided with a Porsche 911 being driven by Salm while Himmleberger was in the passenger seat. Charges for the driver have not yet been made public.
According to the sheriff’s office, the driver of the F-150 became involved in a road rage incident with the driver of a Nissan Maxima. The driver of the Nissan told the sheriff’s office that the F-150 pulled in front of him while driving north on Eagle Mountain Boulevard until turning onto state Route 73.
“The driver of the F-150 then rammed the Maxima from the side. The driver of the Maxima then began to stop. At this point it appears the driver of the F-150 lost control, crossed the center line, and crashed head on into a 1987 Porsche 911 that was driving west,” reads the sheriff’s office release.
Salm and Himmleberger were both killed on impact, according to the sheriff’s office, while the driver of the F-150 was brought to the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.
“It was about as violent as they come. If you’re looking at the front of the Porsche, you’d be hard pressed to know the make and model,” Sgt. Spencer Cannon said.
While the driver of the Nissan and other witnesses gave statements to the sheriff’s office, the department asked Monday for anyone who saw the incident to call at 801-851-4010.
