Mrs. Utah Petite Toni Allman will be the master of ceremonies for the "Check Yourself" vocal and dance show to be held in the Springville High School auditorium at 6 pm. Tuesday, June 6, 2023.

On Tuesday, professional singers and dancers who starred on television shows such as “The Voice,” “American Idol,” “So You Think You Can Dance” and more will be performing in Springville in honor of their personal cancer heroes.

Entrance fees and donations from the event will go directly toward the mission of Dancers Against Cancer, which helps fund treatments for cancer patients in an effort to alleviate their financial burdens.

Voicing the show will be Mrs. Utah Petite, Toni Allman, whose own experience with cancer inspired the event. In 2021, Allman was encouraged by her husband to go to the doctor and get her first mammogram at the age of 40.

The doctors found she had stage zero breast cancer, which was able to be removed by a mastectomy. Chemotherapy and radiation were able to be avoided due to early detection.

“That cancer diagnosis was a wake-up call for me. Since then, I have felt driven to encourage others to take advantage of early detection, because I know from personal experience it is our best protection,” Allman said.

The show has a goal to raise $5,000 for Dancers Against Cancer. The lineup of entertainment for the night includes several accomplished singers and dancers from Springville and other cities in Utah County.

“World of Dance” finalist Charity Anderson Reid will be performing to honor her grandmother, who was a Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor.

“It is such a privilege to honor my grandmother, who was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma and was given just three days to live. At that time, she was determined to beat cancer and did so within two years, living an additional 19 years. My grandma was the most resilient, strong, hardworking, faithful, loving, determined, Christ-like and, most of all, stubbornly positive person I know. Her example of having hope has gotten me through so much self-doubt and led me to where I am today,” Reid said.

Ryan Di Lello, now 42, made it to the top six in season six of “So You Think You Can Dance.” He will be dancing to honor Joe Ortiz, his uncle who passed away at the same age from colon cancer. He will be dancing with partner Alayne Wadsworth.

At the age of 15, Paige Fish was the youngest female to be accepted into the top 50 on season 20 of “American Idol” in 2022. With her performance, Fish will honor close friend Lindsey Abbott and a few unnamed family members who have experienced cancer.

“I am participating in this event because I want to give back to my community,” Fish said. “They’ve given me so many opportunities to perform throughout my life and it’s given me a springboard to become who I am today. I am so honored to be a part of this lineup. To sing for Lindsey is an honor. I feel a responsibility to give her strength and courage through my performance,” she said.

Alexis Warr from “So You Think You Can Dance” will be performing to honor her mother, brother and grandparents, who have all battled with cancer. She will be giving two performances, dancing with partners Brandon Armstrong and Carter Williams.

In 2017, Aaliyah Rose became the youngest female to compete in “The Voice” at the age of 14. She also competed in the 21st season of “American Idol” this year. Rose’s performance will be dedicated to her mother, Melanie, who is currently battling breast cancer.

Other dancers include Ava Allen, Brooklyn Ward, Paisley Parker and the Dancers Against Cancer Dance Company.

The event will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Springville High School auditorium, 1205 E. 900 South. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. A minimum $5 donation is required for entry. For more information or to make a donation, visit https://bit.ly/3WUOoAC.
