Recent weather and hillside erosion has caused the Utah Department of Transportation to close a bridge leading into Provo Canyon.

UDOT advised drivers Friday to use alternate routes to access Provo Canyon over the weekend and into early next week. Drivers are encouraged to plan additional travel time.

“Recent storms have eroded a section of the cliffside at the mouth of the canyon where 800 North in Orem connects to US-189,” public information officer Geoff Dupaix said. “UDOT technical crews have evaluated the area and determined the bridge connection will remain closed to traffic as a safety precaution until the area of rock can be removed next week.”

Motorists traveling into Provo Canyon from I-15 can use alternate local routes, such as Orem’s Center Street or University Parkway to access University Avenue. From there, drivers will be able to travel up U.S.-189.
