Bassist Darryl Jones of the Rolling Stones will speak as part of Utah Valley University's Presidential Lecture Series on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023.

A child of the 1960s and 1970s, bassist Darryl Jones has shared his talents around the world with some of the most influential musicians in the music business.

Jones, best known for his work with the Rolling Stones, will share his insights and experiences with students and the public at Utah Valley University’s fall 2023 Presidential Lecture Series at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 16 in the Scott C. and Karen Keller Building on the UVU campus in Orem.

In addition to his lecture, Jones will team up with film producer and director Eric Hamburg to host a special screening of the new documentary “Darryl Jones: In the Blood” at 6 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Noorda Center for the Performing Arts.

Tickets for the documentary are free and available to the public through the Noorda’s box office website. Seating is limited, so early registration is encouraged. The film will be followed by a question-and-answer session with Jones and Hamburg.

Born and raised in Chicago, Jones has established himself as one of the world’s most respected and sought-after bassists, according to a university press release. “When I was a kid, I didn’t want to be Michael Jackson,” Jones said in the release. “I wanted to play with Michael Jackson. I wanted to play with all of the best artists.”

Joining the Rolling Stones in 1993, Jones has played a role in shaping the band’s iconic sound for decades. He has collaborated with many popular artists, including Miles Davis, Sting, Eric Clapton and Madonna.

“We are thrilled to welcome Darryl Jones to our campus for this special event,” UVU President Astrid S. Tuminez said in the release. “His remarkable career and contributions to the music industry make him an ideal speaker for our Presidential Lecture Series. We believe his insights will inspire our students and ignite their passion for pursuing their own dreams.”
