The annual Building a Better Orem awards presentation had someone from every city department represented among the winners, which Orem City spokesperson Pete Wolfley said shows that great things are happening in every corner of the city.

Mayor Dave Young spoke at the event and told employees: “As mayor, I have the privilege of witnessing the dedication, passion and hard work that each and every one of you brings to your roles. You are the backbone of our community, the ones who make sure our streets are safe, our services are top-notch and our citizens are well taken care of. You are the unsung heroes who make this city great. Your commitment to public service is nothing short of admirable, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such a dedicated team.”

City Manager Brenn Bybee also addressed employees, noting that, “Each day, you all contribute to the betterment of our community in countless ways, often behind the scenes. The professionalism and kindness you exhibit towards our residents is a testament to your unwavering commitment to our city’s values. You truly exemplify what it means to work for Family City USA.”

This year, the trophies that were given to the BABO winners were crafted from salvaged wood from the popular ponderosa pine tree that stood on the corner of the City Center property.

Here are the winners and their departments for this year:

• Employee of the Year: Jake Summers, Legal.
• Rising Stars: Ngahe Mapa, Public Works; and Jordyn Jackson, Library.
• Rookie of the Year: John Adams, Public Works; and Tess Jones, City Manager’s Department.

The Rising Star Award is presented to part-time employees. The Rookie of the Year Award is presented to employees who have been with the city for two years or less.
