The body found in the river near Battle Creek Falls earlier this month has been identified as a 23-year-old woman, Lela Anne Wooley, from Pleasant Grove.

On Sept. 1, hikers on the Battle Creek Falls trail reported a body in the stream about 50 yards away from the falls. The initial report was made around 10 a.m.

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office released her identity Thursday evening, saying medical examiners found blunt force trauma to be the cause of death but did not determine the manner of death.

Utah County Sheriff Sgt. Spencer Cannon said it is unknown if foul play was involved in Wooley’s death.

While it is unusual for the department to wait several days to release a deceased individual’s name in a case like this, Cannon said that alone doesn’t indicate suspicious circumstances.

Cannon declined to provide any additional information on the woman or the case. The investigation still remains open and active.

Starting at $4.32/week.
