Hundreds of community members took to Provo’s Center Street on Thursday afternoon to participate in the city’s annual downtown trick-or-treat festivities.

Adults and children alike dressed in a variety of creative costumes, ranging from superheroes to Moo Deng — a baby hippo who recently became a viral internet trend — to receive candy from dozens of local businesses.

One business owner, Reise Malachowski of The Man Barber, said he’s seen the event grow steadily in the 11 years he’s owned the shop and believes it’s good for the city.

“It really feels like the spirit of Halloween downtown with the leaves changing, kids running around, handing out candy. So I look forward to it every year,” Malachowski said.

Mark Ainge, the owner of Java Junkie, said he spent over $300 on candy to hand out to kids at the event, which went on from 3-6 p.m.

“It’s to support the community and it’s pretty cool, all those people that come down here,” Ainge said.
