Passengers board the first flight for Breeze Airways out of the Provo Airport on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022.

Travelers flying out of the Provo Airport soon will have a new destination option to the East Coast.

On Tuesday, Breeze Airways announced nonstop service to Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C., from Provo beginning Oct. 1. It will be the first time service to the nation’s capital has been offered from Utah County, according to a press release.

The Utah-based carrier will offer flights from Provo to Washington three times a week, flying on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Provo City leaders seemed enthusiastic about the news.

“Nonstop service by Breeze to Washington-Dulles will provide Provo and the Greater Utah Valley region travelers convenient access to the national capital region,” Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi said in the release. “As a top unserved market, a nonstop link to our Nation’s Capital will allow the Greater Provo community to conduct business and enjoy a variety of leisure experiences with much greater travel time savings.”

Provo is one of four cities Breeze recently announced new service to the nation’s capital from.

“We are excited for Breeze Airways to become the 45th airline at Washington Dulles International,” said Paul Bobson, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority vice president for airline business development, in a press release.

Breeze Airways founder and CEO David Neeleman believes the new route to Dulles is another way the low-cost airline connects Provo residents to desirable destinations.

“As we connect more unserved city pairs, we saw a great opportunity from our Hometown Airport, Provo, with this never before served route to IAD,” Neeleman said in the release, referencing the three-letter airport code for Dulles.

Utah’s congressional delegation also responded to the news. “I’m so pleased to see additional flights coming through Provo and to welcome more visitors to the city I love,” U.S. Rep. John Curtis stated in the release.

The Provo-Washington connection comes as momentum continues to take flight at the local airport.

Breeze Airways started offering service to Dallas earlier this year, adding to routes already in motion to Arizona, California and Colorado, among other destinations.

Breeze also is offering a promotion to celebrate the new route. Travelers can book a one-way flight for $99 through May 13, 2025, if tickets are purchased by next Tuesday.

Starting at $4.32/week.
