Investigators work the scene outside of a residence at 782 W. Heather Lane, where a woman's body was discovered inside of a shed, Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, in Provo.

A 53-year-old man is in custody on suspicion of murder after Provo Police Department officers discovered the body of a woman — identified as his former girlfriend, Lesa Hyde — inside of a shed behind an apartment complex near 700 W. Heather Lane on Sunday afternoon.

Provo police said they received a 911 call about the body and responded to the residence to perform a welfare check, according to a probable cause statement.

Officers arrived and reportedly found Arthuro Carrion in the front yard of the apartments, behind which were two locked sheds.

At the property landlord’s request, Carrion handed officers a key to one of the locked sheds. When an officer asked what they would inside of the structure, Carrion responded with “a dead body,” the probable cause statement alleges.

Upon opening the shed, the scent of decomposition was plain, court documents detailed.

Two sheds are pictured behind a small apartment complex on Heather Lane in Provo on Monday, Feb. 24, 2025. Police discovered the body of a missing woman from Springville in the shed on the right Sunday afternoon.

“Several bags were opened, a black bag was opened, and a forearm of a human body was seen inside,” the probable cause statement said.

Details regarding the state the body was in or any indication of how long it had been in the shed were not provided, nor was any information about how the woman died.

Carrion allegedly told a witness the day prior that he had done something wrong, according to the court documents, and told them he had “pulled a Rick.”

It was found that “Rick” is a family member who previously had murdered his girlfriend and is incarcerated for that crime, according to the responding police officer.

“The witness arrived at the home and asked Carrion what was going on. Carrion said he had done something wrong. Then used the name ‘Lesa’, and nodded his head at the shed in the backyard,” the probable cause statement stated.

Court documents show that Carrion was arrested for domestic violence last November. The victim in that case is his former girlfriend, who currently is listed as a missing person out of Springville.

Carrion previously was interviewed by Springville police as a person of interest in their investigation into the woman’s disappearance, the court documents noted.

In a press release issued late last month, Springville police said the woman has been missing since December.

Provo police initially said they were not confirming if the victim found in the shed was the same person from the domestic violence case, but the arresting officer’s probable cause statement gave indications that it is likely her.

“At this time we are unable to provide further information on the body found. The remains will be transferred to the Office of the Medical Examiner for further investigation, autopsy and identification,” said Janna-Lee Holland, spokesperson for the Provo Police Department, in a press release.

Springville police also did not immediately confirm if the two incidents are related.

“I have received some messages regarding a possible related incident. Please be patient as Provo investigates this heinous crime and understand that they are not able to release the identity of the victim just yet,” the agency said Monday morning on its social media page.

However, a short time later, Springville police identified Hyde as the alleged victim.

“We would like to offer our deepest sympathy to Lesa’s family and friends at this very difficult time,” the department said in a statement.

Carrion was booked into the Utah County Jail on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail. Other charges may be handed down later. As of Monday morning, Carrion had not been formally charged.
