The new Spanish Fork Fire and EMS logo was revealed during a swearing-in ceremony on Thursday, July 7, 2022.A family remains displaced from its Spanish Fork home after a teenage boy reportedly set a fire in his basement bedroom on Saturday.
Spanish Fork Fire and EMS responded to a structure fire near 900 E. Canyon Drive on Saturday afternoon that reportedly started when the boy ignited cardboard, a city release said.
On Monday, city spokesperson Jack Urquhart said that, according to Fire Chief Edward Hales, smoke and fire damage will require “significant” repair and restoration, and that power service will have to meet code standards before the family can reoccupy the home.
Saturday’s release detailed that the family fled the home before first responders arrived and were unsure if there was an active fire. Upon arrival, the crews found a fire in the bedroom and smoke throughout the basement and extinguished the fire.
The boy who started the fire was treated for burns on his hand and smoke circulation, while a firefighter was treated on the scene for heat exhaustion, the city said.
The family was displaced Saturday and was staying with relatives, according to the release.
