An 8-year-old boy was found dead and his mother in critical condition inside of a Saratoga Springs home Friday morning, prompting a police investigation.

Saratoga Springs spokesperson AnnElise Harrison said police and emergency responders were called to a home in the area of 1200 Willowbrook Lane just after 10 a.m. by a 17-year-old girl who reportedly discovered the others.

“When the police arrived, they found a deceased 8-year-old male and a 43-year-old female in critical condition,” Harrison said.

The woman was transported to a hospital in Provo.

Another 15-year-old boy was also located in the home. Both he and the 17-year-old were unharmed, according to Harrison, but were placed in a “protective situation” for the time being.

According to police, the woman is the mother of both teens and the 8-year-old boy.

As of 2 p.m. Friday, police were still on the scene and awaiting approval for a search warrant to enter the home and conduct their investigation.

Details about the boy’s death and the woman’s injuries were not revealed; authorities said it’s too early to tell if anyone else may have been involved in the incident.

Neither the boy nor his mother were identified.
