UVU to cancel classes on one-year anniversary of Charlie Kirk’s killing

Kirk, a political activist, was speaking at a Turning Point USA event in an outdoor courtyard on campus in front of thousands of students when he was shot on Sept. 10, 2025.
As the university continues to heal from the tragic event, school officials are designating the anniversary as a day to provide space for reflection, service and connection, Interim President Wayne Vaught said in the email shared with the Daily Herald.
“Healing continues in different ways for each member of our university community as we approach September 10,” Vaught said.
The university invites students and staff to participate in United Way’s annual Day of Caring at the Nu Skin building in Provo. The event starts at 7:30 a.m. with a free breakfast.
“This long-standing tradition of service is an opportunity to come together and continue healing through helping others,” Vaught said.
UVU’s fall semester begins on Aug. 19. New school president Jon Anderson officially began his role on Monday.
