The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands issued Stage 1 Fire Restrictions for unincorporated Utah County last week.

Restrictions were imposed due to the current and forecasted weather conditions combined with the dry vegetation, according to the Utah County Fire Department.

According to state officials, open fires are prohibited with the exception of fire rings or grills at developed campgrounds and day-use areas with pressurized water systems, or permanently constructed fire pits at private homes.

Smoking is prohibited in dry vegetation areas and fire and pyrotechnic devices are banned.

Cutting, welding or grinding metal is prohibited where dry vegetation is present, and small internal combustion engines may not operate without an approved and functioning spark arrestor.

Violations of restrictions may result in a penalty of up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000, state authorities said.

Starting at $4.32/week.
