1. Why is the position you are running for important?
The Utah County Commission makes decisions that directly impact every family and business in our county. Commissioners control over a hundred million in taxpayer funds and play an important role in transportation, infrastructure, public safety, and planning for our future.
I believe one of the most important responsibilities of a county commissioner is being a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars. Families and businesses are already struggling with the rising cost of living, and government needs to live within its means.
Utah County is growing rapidly, and the decisions we make today will affect our children and grandchildren for decades. We need commissioners who understand the importance of planning ahead, working with our cities, and ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with growth.
2. What unique qualities, attributes, skills and experiences do you possess that make you the best candidate in this race?
I never intended to become a politician. I originally ran for the Orem City Council because I wanted to save our community’s baseball fields. Those fields are still there today, and that experience taught me how important it is for elected officials to listen to the people they represent.
I went on to serve 12 years on the Orem City Council, gaining firsthand experience with budgets, infrastructure, public safety, water resources, and the challenges facing growing communities.
During that time, I helped advance a new City Center without taking on new debt, supported improvements to parks and water infrastructure, and worked with city staff to identify efficiencies, eliminate waste, and improve services. I also supported new training facilities and equipment for our first responders.
I understand how local government operates, the challenges cities face, and the importance of building relationships to get things done. That practical experience is what I will bring to the Utah County Commission.
3. Please explain your priorities if elected, as well as why you believe you are uniquely capable of achieving those priorities.
My top priorities are transportation, infrastructure, water, and protecting taxpayers.
Utah County has experienced tremendous growth, but our roads and infrastructure have not kept pace. I believe we are approximately 15 years behind where we need to be. If we continue approving growth without adequate infrastructure, traffic congestion will only get worse, and our quality of life will suffer.
As commissioner, I want to meet personally with every mayor, city council, and community throughout Utah County to better understand their needs. We need a coordinated countywide approach to transportation, water, and infrastructure.
Once we identify those priorities, I will work with our state legislators, regional transportation partners, and other stakeholders to secure a fair share of state infrastructure funding for Utah County.
I also want to establish a Strategy and Innovation Department to review county operations, identify inefficiencies, eliminate unnecessary spending, and improve services.I have experience working through these challenges at the city level. I understand that lasting improvements require collaboration, careful planning, and fiscal discipline.
4. Please describe how you view the importance of compromise in politics and provide an example from your own experiences that highlights your perspective.
Compromise is an important part of good government, but there is a difference between finding common ground and compromising your principles.
During my 12 years on the Orem City Council, I worked alongside people with different opinions, priorities, and ideas. I learned that listening, asking questions, and being willing to consider different approaches are essential to finding solutions.
My approach is to listen carefully, work toward solutions everyone can understand, and stand firm on the principles I was elected to represent.
You can disagree without being disagreeable. We need more of that attitude in government.
5. How will you balance the views of the vocal public, your political party, and your own understanding and knowledge as an elected representative?
My responsibility as an elected official is first and foremost to the citizens of Utah County.
I am a conservative Republican, and my principles guide my decisions. But I also recognize that I represent everyone in our county, regardless of political affiliation.
Whether we are discussing data centers, water usage, transportation, development, or taxes, I believe residents deserve to have their voices heard and their concerns taken seriously.
We must be especially careful to protect the character and integrity of our neighborhoods. Economic development is important, but projects should not come at the expense of our water resources, infrastructure, or residents’ quality of life.
I believe decisions should be based on facts, careful analysis, public input, and a clear understanding of long-term consequences.
Not everyone will agree with every decision. But residents should always know where I stand, why I made a decision, and that I listened before making it. I will always put the people of Utah County first.
6. What is the best way for readers to contact you and/or get more information about your platform?
I believe elected officials should be accessible to the people they represent. I welcome questions, concerns, and ideas from residents throughout Utah County.
