Sanpete County supports citizens with programs and services

By Gloria Albrecht - | Nov 22, 2023

Coming together as a community and rallying around each other is one of the greatest gifts we can share this season.

Joyous celebrations and family gatherings are the hallmark of the holiday season. But for some the struggle to survive in an ever-changing world makes winter, and particularly the holidays, more difficult than ever.

Sanpete County always rallies around its citizens, and this season is no exception. Helpful programs are available for those who need them as the community prepares for the upcoming holidays and winter.

  • The Sanpete Pantry continues to support the community with mobile food drops in Sanpete County, while their store on Blackhawk Blvd. in Mt Pleasant is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. every week. In addition the Sanpete Pantry reminds citizens that they “partner with the Snow College Home and Family Studies department to provide free community courses on topics related to family finances, resume writing, networking, interviewing, gardening, marriage, etc. Please see the Snow College Community Education website for more information: https://www.snow.edu/community/communityed/” For times and locations of mobile food drops check their web page or follow the Sanpete Pantry on Facebook.
  • Holiday times are particularly difficult for those experiencing Grief & Loss, or struggling with Addiction & Recovery, and Heartsong Therapeutic Coaching is offering programs for Grief & Loss Support (on Mondays at 2:30 p.m.) and Addiction and Recovery support (on Mondays at 4 p.m.). Drop-ins are welcome and the programs are FREE to the public during November and December in the Ephraim Community Center at 42 W. 100 North in Ephraim. Visit their website at www.heartsongcoaching.com/events for additional information.
  • Jan Reese, Suicide Prevention Coordinator for the Central Utah Counseling Center is hosting a SAPST Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Training on Dec. 11 that consists of three days of training for North Sanpete Coalition members. The North Sanpete Coalition meets the first Monday of every month at Mt. Pleasant City Hall at noon. The goal of the coalition is to support the community by bringing together ideas, services, and resources of the county’s public service programs in an effort to better support the citizens of Sanpete County. Meetings of the North Sanpete Coalition are open to the public.
  • A family and community Mental Health Night will take place on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. at the North Sanpete High School auditorium. Attendees will get free pizza and adults will receive a gift card from Terrel’s market. Learn how to “beat the winter blues, combat depression and gain 6 habits to boost your energy and mood.” The program is being hosted by Casey Pehrson, ED.S., NCSP.
  • The annual Winter Coat Drive hosted by the Mt Pleasant library is in full swing! Donations are being collected at the Mt Pleasant library, Mt. Pleasant City Hall and the Mt. Pleasant Pool until Dec. 15. Donate new or like-new outerwear: hats, gloves, coats, scarves, boots and mittens of all sizes are helpful for the community in need.

Coming together as a community and rallying around each other is one of the greatest gifts we can share this season. Share the news of these helpful events with your family and friends and uplift our community.
