Snow College awards technical education scholarships to local students

By Staff | Apr 10, 2024

Snow College recently celebrated the achievements of nearly 130 local high school seniors by awarding them scholarships to pursue technical education pathways. The event, known as Career and Technical Education (CTE) Pathway Completers Day, took place at the Richfield Snow College campus and witnessed a remarkable turnout from students, parents, educators, and industry partners.

Seniors from 10 different high schools in the central Utah regional area gathered at the Sevier Valley Center for the third annual CTE Pathway Completers Day. Each student was presented with a $500 scholarship to Snow College, totaling an impressive $127,000 in funding allocated to support their educational endeavors.

The event, initially planned for a smaller venue, had to be relocated due to overwhelming demand, accommodating a total of 400 attendees. After a heartwarming awards ceremony and dinner, students had the opportunity to interact with college faculty, explore lab facilities, and engage with industry professionals across various program areas.

Snow College offers a diverse range of technical education programs, including agricultural technology, automotive technology, composites, construction technology and management, diesel technology, industrial mechanics, machine tool technology, welding technology, computer information systems networking and cybersecurity, business digital marketing, certified nursing assistant, and medical assisting. These programs have been identified as crucial for meeting the workforce demands of the central Utah region.

Representatives from prominent industry partners such as Sunroc, Wolverine Fuels, Jensen Air & Refrigeration, and Associated General Contractors of Utah were also present to provide valuable insights and opportunities for students.

Jay Olsen, interim vice president of technical education and workforce development at Snow College, expressed his delight in recognizing the dedication and achievements of the seniors. He emphasized the importance of connecting students with faculty and industry partners, setting the stage for a successful transition into their chosen career pathways.

Moving forward, Snow College remains committed to supporting students in their educational journey. Collaborating closely with high schools, counselors, and teachers, Snow College advisors will guide students through the registration process for summer or fall classes, ensuring a seamless transition into their desired programs.

Snow College, founded in 1888, continues to uphold its legacy of providing quality education and empowering students to achieve their academic and career aspirations. With campuses in Ephraim and Richfield, along with a learning center in Nephi, Snow College remains dedicated to offering affordable education and abundant opportunities for personal and professional growth.
