Mt. Pleasant Library rolls out fall/winter programs and activities

By Gloria Albrecht - | Aug 14, 2024

Dawn Coates, director of the Mt. Pleasant library, joins with her staff to announce a variety of new programs and activities to entice the entire family.

  • New this season is “1,000 Books” a program for children 0 to 5 years of age. Starting in mid-September, this free program encourages you to read 1000 books with your child before he or she enters Kindergarten. Books read at story time in the library or in daycare count too. Experts say children need to reach this goal before entering school to help them learn to read for themselves. Register at the library and pick up a packet to get started. This club has no end date except your child entering Kindergarten, so do not feel rushed.
  • Pre-school story time begins Sept. 9 and runs through May. Meets Mondays at 11:15 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Children’s library.
  • Home-school story time for kids 4 through 12 and their parents starts September 4th and meets every Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Children’s library.
  • STEAM is a program with activities based on science that meets every fourth Tuesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. Children in grades 3 through 6 can enjoy this hands-on learning experience starting Tuesday, Sept. 24.
  • Magic Tree House is an activity based on the Magic Tree House book series. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 10, the program will take place every second Tuesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. Age appropriate for 5- to 10-year-olds.

  • The Page Turners Book Club meets monthly, usually the third Wednesday of the month, at 9:30 a.m. in the Mt. Pleasant Children’s library. Connect with other readers, enjoy a light snack and discuss that month’s book. This program is run in conjunction with Book Buzz, a service of the Utah State Library. The State Library maintains a collection of approximately 600 book sets, all consisting of at least 15 copies that may be circulated for the use of a local book group or book club. Among the titles available, one would find classics, fantasy, non-fiction, graphic novels, clean reads, young adult literature, and so much more. There is something for everyone! Books for the monthly read may be checked out through Mt. Pleasant public library and are pre-selected by the members.
  • The Mt. Pleasant Library, using grant money from the Utah State Library, has created a “Book Walk” along the paved walking path in the Mt. Pleasant City Park. The book changes every 2 weeks and pages are displayed on placards along the walking path.
  • Delivery service is available for homebound readers. Curb-side service is also available. Call the library at 435 462-3240 to request delivery.
