Snow College introduces cross country and JV football programs

By Staff | Feb 21, 2024

Snow College is pleased to announce the addition of a cross country program for both men and women as well as a junior varsity football program beginning fall of 2024.

Snow College is thrilled to share the news of its latest endeavors to enrich the student-athlete experience with the introduction of cross country programs for both men and women, along with a junior varsity football program, set to kick off in the fall of 2024.

The Richfield campus will be the hub for the cross country teams, while the JV football squad will utilize existing resources in Ephraim. This strategic move not only broadens access for potential student-athletes but also aligns seamlessly with the institution’s core priorities and strategies.

The Snow College Strategic Enrollment Committee, in their insightful analysis, identified the potential for increased campus vitality and enrollment through the addition of more athletic programs. This perspective garnered support from college leadership.

Rob Nielson, vice president for external affairs and athletic director, expressed, “We believe these additions will help us expand opportunities to more students while providing the excellent student experience that is unique to Snow College.”

Following a meticulous financial analysis, the institution confirmed the integration of both programs could be achieved largely using existing resources. This integration, in harmony with the strategic enrollment plan, is poised to create additional general education opportunities alongside the technical education classes currently offered on the Richfield campus.

The cross country teams will immediately join the NJCAA Region 18 and the Scenic West Athletic Conference for competitive engagements, in line with recent announcements by other member institutions.

Cody Branch, vice president of student affairs, highlighted the significance of this move, stating, “We have worked hard to establish an institutional strategic enrollment plan to promote smart and sustainable growth at Snow College. Considering and adopting new athletic programs is one of many key strategies outlined in our plan.”
