Snow College Student Success Advisors gear up to welcome Class of 2026

By Staff | Feb 28, 2024

The Snow College Student Success Advisors are preparing for what is shaping up to be their busiest season yet.

EPHRAIM — With the anticipation of the upcoming fall semester, Snow College’s Student Success Advisors are embarking on their most dynamic season yet. In a commitment to a comprehensive advising model, nearly 5,000 newly admitted students have received personalized invitations to schedule academic advising appointments with their dedicated advisors before fall class registration opens.

During these sessions, incoming students will engage in discussions about their personal and educational aspirations. Collaboratively, advisors and students will craft educational plans tailored to individual goals, ensuring timely graduation. Advisors will also guide students through the registration process, equipping them with the necessary tools for a successful academic journey.

Landon Peterson, director of Academic Advising, emphasized the pivotal role advisors play in students’ college experiences, stating, “Advisors are the students’ guides through the institution. From connecting them to resources to charting their course towards realizing their dreams, advisors play a key role in the student experience.”

To enhance this experience, the advising office has undergone significant enhancements, including the recruitment of seven additional advisors over the past five years. Each advisor now oversees a manageable caseload of just over 300 students, allowing for specialization in majors and attendance at division meetings to stay informed about changes.

The introduction of improvements to a degree-planning tool further refines the advising process. Instead of a simple term schedule, students will now receive a comprehensive graduation plan integrated with the student scheduling software. This streamlined approach not only benefits students but also affords advisors more time for meaningful interactions. Rather than solely focusing on creating schedules, advisors will have the opportunity to build deeper connections with students, understanding their unique needs.

Peterson expressed his excitement for these changes and anticipates the positive impact on the incoming class. He remarked, “We have exceptional advisors at Snow College who genuinely care for their students and strive for their success. I am thrilled to continue developing the best possible experience for students with the incredible team of professionals I have the privilege to work with every day.”

Students are encouraged to schedule appointments with their advisors promptly to ensure preparedness for fall registration opening on April 8. Appointments can be made by visiting snow.edu/advise.
