North Sanpete High School senior Luke Olson.

Spring City’s concert series kicks off this year’s captivating programs with a stellar performance by North Sanpete High School senior, Luke Olson. The event is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 26, starting at 7 p.m. in the ballroom of the Spring City Community Center, located at 45 South 100 East.

Luke Olson, son of Dr. Glenn and Ann Janette Olson of Mount Pleasant, will take center stage for an impressive solo recital, showcasing his musical prowess. Under the guidance of his mentor, E. Donnell Blackham of Moroni, Luke will enchant the audience with compositions by Tcherepnin, Bach, Mozart, MacDowell, and Debussy.

This solo recital marks a significant accomplishment for Luke, a testament to his dedication and talent. Active in various high school activities, including four years in tennis and playing both French horn and trumpet, Luke’s musical journey began under the tutelage of his grandmother, Norma Olson of Ephraim. His subsequent collaboration with Blackham has propelled him to excellence, earning him the prestigious title of Sterling Scholar in music at North Sanpete High School.

Originally established to raise funds for a piano in the ballroom, the Spring City concert series now aims to maintain the splendid grand piano generously donated by the B. W. Bastian foundation. This kickoff event, featuring Luke Olson, will be followed by two more winter concerts: Brian Stucki and students in February, and Jack Ashton’s Young Artists chamber orchestra in March. Further details about these performances will be shared closer to the event dates.

While Luke’s recital is open to the public with no admission fee, donations are welcomed to support the upkeep of the grand piano. We extend a warm invitation to everyone to attend and witness this remarkable achievement in the heart of Spring City.
