SPRING CITY — On March 12, Spring City Elementary welcomed members of Plan-B Theatre, a renowned professional theatre company based in Utah, to present an engaging play to students in grades K-3. Known for creating new works tailored specifically for elementary students, Plan-B Theatre is a vital part of the Utah State Board of Education’s Professional Outreach Programs in the Schools.

The play presented to the students, titled “SQUEAK” and written by Tito Livas, served as an educational tool to help children understand the thoughts and experiences of individuals with ADHD/Autism. Through lively performances and interactive storytelling, the play provided valuable insights into why a person’s behavior and thinking may differ, fostering empathy and understanding among the young audience.

As part of the educational experience, each student received a copy of the book “All My Stripes: A Story for Children with Autism” by Shaina Rudolph and Danielle Royer. This thoughtful gesture aimed to further reinforce the themes explored in the play and promote inclusivity and acceptance within the school community.

The visit from Plan-B Theatre was met with enthusiasm and appreciation from both students and faculty at Spring City Elementary. Principal Jessica Martinez expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage students in such an impactful and meaningful way. “The play and accompanying book not only entertained our students but also provided valuable lessons in empathy and acceptance,” Martinez commented. “We are grateful to Plan-B Theatre for their dedication to educating young minds and promoting understanding of neurodiversity.”
