Snow College celebrates outstanding faculty members

By Staff | May 1, 2024

Snow College is proud to announce the recognition of two exceptional faculty members during its upcoming Ephraim Commencement Ceremony on May 3, 2024. Professor Renée Faatz will be honored with the prestigious Jesse Madsen Brady Teaching Award, while Professor Kevin Sorensen will receive the esteemed J. Elliot & Maxine Cameron Faculty Service Award.

The Jesse Madsen Brady Teaching Award is bestowed upon a faculty member who demonstrates exceptional teaching skills in the classroom and provides exemplary service to students beyond academic duties. Renée Faatz, who joined Snow College in 1986, embodies these qualities wholeheartedly. Renée’s passion for teaching geology is evident in her dedication to her students, often providing hands-on experiences to enhance their learning. Her commitment to fostering a deep understanding of the subject extends beyond traditional lectures, as she frequently leads field trips to help students appreciate geology in its natural setting.

On the other hand, the Elliot and Maxine Cameron Faculty Service Award recognizes faculty members who have shown outstanding dedication to service. Over his 24-year tenure as a biology professor, Kevin Sorensen has made significant contributions to Snow College and the local community. Kevin’s service extends to various domains, from actively engaging in STEM outreach programs in local schools to serving on numerous committees where his problem-solving skills shine. Additionally, Kevin is a strong advocate for undergraduate research, enriching the academic experience of Snow College students.

Provost Michael Austin expressed his admiration for the award recipients, stating, “Snow College is privileged to have such exceptional, student-focused professors like Renée Faatz and Kevin Sorensen among our faculty. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to them for their well-deserved recognition.”
