Sanpete girls wrestling shines at Rockwell, Tintic, and Beehive Brawl

North Sanpete and Manti girls at Tintic High School for the Battle at the Mine.Girls wrestling in Sanpete County continues to make waves as athletes from Manti and North Sanpete High Schools demonstrated grit and skill in competitions at The Rockwell Rumble in Herriman and The Battle at the Mine in Eureka. Additionally, the next generation of wrestlers gained valuable experience at the Beehive Brawl in Richfield.
Rockwell Rumble
Manti High School’s Danny Castro and Summer Rowley represented their school at The Rockwell Rumble, one of Utah’s premier wrestling tournaments, attracting elite competitors from across the state and neighboring regions. Both Castro and Rowley showcased determination, gaining valuable experience that will prepare them for the 3A divisional tournament in a few weeks.
Battle at the Mine
The North Sanpete girls wrestling team made a strong showing at The Battle at the Mine in Eureka, finishing fifth out of 21 teams. All four North Sanpete competitors earned podium finishes:
Hannah Perry: First Place
Taylie McQuivey: Third Place
Kynnedy Cartright: Third Place
Bree Richardson: Fourth Place
Manti’s Keely Hansen also competed, earning a commendable second place finish.
North Sanpete Head Coach Doug Spencer expressed pride in his team’s efforts:
“These young women are wonderful to coach. They respond to challenges and take feedback well. I am grateful to the parents who raise such great daughters and thankful for the opportunity to coach them at wrestling.”
Upcoming competitions
North Sanpete will host Union High School on Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. at North Sanpete High School. Meanwhile, Manti will welcome Enterprise High School for a duel at the same time. Both teams will wrap up the week at the North Sevier Girls Invitational.
Sanpete Girls Wrestling Club at Beehive Brawl
The Sanpete Girls Wrestling Club also showcased rising talent, with three young athletes competing at the Beehive Brawl in Richfield:
Allie Haws (second grade)
McCoy Haws (first grade, sixth place finisher)
Sawyer Ellis (second grade)
All three wrestlers gained valuable experience and had fun, a key focus for the junior program.
The club’s coaching staff, featuring former wrestlers Ali Hatch (Manti) and Aiyana Spencer (North Sanpete), has played an integral role in fostering the sport. They have been supported by Sophia Johnson and Journey Toomey, both former athletes.
The contributions of these young coaches signal a bright future for girls wrestling in Sanpete County. As the sport continues to grow, these efforts will ensure the development of a strong program for years to come.
Sanpete girls wrestling is on the rise, proving that dedication and hard work lead to success both on and off the mat.
