Sanpete girls wrestling teams wrap up regular season at North Sevier Invitational

The entire North Sanpete – Manti girls wrestling team.
The girls wrestling teams from Manti and North Sanpete High Schools concluded their regular season at the annual Girls Invitational hosted by North Sevier High School this past weekend. Despite injuries limiting participation, both teams showed resilience and determination, with standout performances leading the way.
Manti High entered six wrestlers in the tournament and finished 8th overall, thanks in large part to senior Danny Castro’s first-place finish. Castro continues to shine as a leader for her team, demonstrating her skill and experience on the mat. Other top finishes for Manti included Keely Hansen, who took second place, and Summer Rowley, who secured third.

For North Sanpete, Bree Richardson led the charge, gaining valuable experience by competing against a returning state placer and finishing in fourth place. Taylie McQuivey also had a strong showing, rounding out her day with a fifth-place finish.
Notable performances also came from Manti’s first-year wrestlers Carla Castillo and Holly Rowley, who showed significant improvement throughout the season. Castillo earned her first career win by pinning an opponent, taking sixth place in her bracket. Rowley faced tough competition but wrestled three of her best matches this season, finishing in seventh place.
Head Coach Doug Spencer expressed his pride in the teams’ efforts, noting their progress and readiness for the upcoming divisional tournament.
“There are a couple matches we would like to have back,” Spencer said. “Wrestlers must learn from their mistakes, have short-term memory loss sometimes, and move on. The girls who wrestled today made improvements and got better; they are better prepared for the divisional tournament.”
With the regular season now behind them, both Manti and North Sanpete girls wrestling teams will shift their focus to the divisional tournament on Feb. 1, where they hope to build on their successes and continue their momentum.
