All invited to submit essays to contest
In celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary, Mt. Pleasant City is inviting community members of all ages to participate in the America 250 Mt. Pleasant Community Essay Contest.
This is an opportunity to share your thoughts, experiences, hopes, and reflections about what America means to you.
Whether your essay focuses on freedom, family, community, service, opportunity, patriotism or the future of our nation, we encourage you to write from the heart.
The essay should be written based on this prompt: “What does America mean to you?” The three age categories for the contest are: 7 to 10 years old, 11 to 15 years old and 16 and older. Each first-place winner will receive a $100 prize.
Winning participants will also have the opportunity to read their essays to the community at the Mt. Pleasant City Park on June 28 as part of the Mt. Pleasant America 250 celebration events.
All essays must be submitted by Monday, June 22. Submission guidelines are as follows:
- Essays should be original work.
- Submitters must fill out the Google form (available at mpcityut.gov/hub_city_days/essay_contest.php).
- If selected, submitters must be available to read their essay on June 28 at the Mt. Pleasant Park.
