MORONI — Moroni City will celebrate community, service and hometown dedication this Independence Day by honoring longtime residents and business owners Paul and Sheila Anderson as the 2026 Fourth of July Grand Marshals.
For more than five decades, the Andersons have built their lives around family, hard work and service in the community they proudly call home.
High school sweethearts and graduates of North Sanpete High School, Paul and Sheila’s connection to Moroni stretches back generations. Their story together has become closely tied to the growth and traditions of the community.
In 1978, the couple took over Sheila’s father’s turkey farm, continuing a family operation that originally began in 1962. Nearly five decades later, they are still raising turkeys and working side by side each day.
Their partnership extends beyond agriculture. Together, they also operated Anderson Service Center, where neighbors and local farmers came to rely not only on mechanical expertise but also on the dependable people behind the business.
Friends and family describe the Andersons as the kind of people who show up when they are needed — often without being asked.
Many in the community know the familiar scene of Paul under the hood of a vehicle or tractor late into the evening while Sheila stood nearby with a flashlight, helping keep local farms and families moving.
Their service has reached well beyond their businesses.
Sheila has spent years volunteering throughout the community, serving as a Boy Scout den leader and Girls Camp director. She also became well known for helping with the Moroni Fire Department’s annual Prime Rib Christmas dinner, contributing through her catering and helping make the event a tradition enjoyed by many.
Paul’s commitment to public service spans nearly half a century.
He joined the Moroni volunteer fire department in 1973 and remained with the department for 47 years, eventually serving as fire chief before retiring in 2020. His years of leadership and dedication left a lasting impact on emergency services in the area.
Paul also continues to serve through his role on the Board of Directors for Moroni Feed.
Alongside their work and volunteer service, the Andersons raised five children, all of whom have remained in the community. Family members say their children continue to reflect the values of service, hard work and helping others that Paul and Sheila demonstrated every day.
When they step away from work, the Andersons enjoy spending time outdoors with their growing family. Camping and fishing trips with children and grandchildren remain favorite traditions, complete with Paul’s well-known fish stories and Sheila relaxing nearby with a word search in hand.
As Moroni prepares to celebrate Independence Day, city leaders said selecting Paul and Sheila as grand marshals recognizes not only their years of dedication but also the example they continue to set.
This year’s Fourth of July festivities will give residents an opportunity to thank a couple whose quiet service, strong work ethic and commitment to community have helped shape Moroni for generations.
