Dr. Rylan Anderson, a Gunnison native returns home.

GUNNISON, Utah — After years of education and medical training outside the area, Dr. Rylan Anderson is returning to his hometown to care for the community where he grew up.

Gunnison Valley Family Practice and Wellness has welcomed Anderson, a doctor of osteopathic medicine, to its medical team. A graduate of Gunnison Valley High School, Anderson said returning home gives him the opportunity to serve the people and community that helped shape his life.

For a rural community such as Gunnison Valley, having a hometown physician return to practice is a welcome addition to local health care.

Anderson began his educational journey at Snow College before attending Southern Utah University, where he earned an undergraduate degree in biology. He then continued his medical education at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Utah, earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree.

He completed his residency at Idaho State University in Pocatello, where he received training in family medicine and surgical obstetrics. During his second year of residency, Anderson was recognized with the Resident of the Year award.

His education and training have prepared him to return to the valley with experience in family medicine and a personal understanding of the community he will serve.

“I’m excited to be back in the community that I grew up in and have the opportunity to care for the people here,” Anderson said. “It’s a privilege to come home and be part of the healthcare team at Gunnison Valley Hospital.”

Outside the medical office, Anderson enjoys spending time outdoors. His interests include hunting, horseback riding, snowmobiling and dirt biking. Above all, he enjoys spending time with his family and playing with his two daughters.

Gunnison Valley Family Practice and Wellness said it is pleased to welcome Anderson back to the area and looks forward to having him care for local residents.
