The Sanpete County Commission has scheduled a public hearing for Thursday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. in the Sanpete County Commission Chambers at the Sanpete County Courthouse, 160 N. Main St. in Manti.

The hearing will focus on the proposed ballot proposition, which asks voters whether Sanpete County should implement up to a 1% sales and use tax for purposes allowed under state law.

The ballot question reads:

“Shall Sanpete County implement up to a 1% sales and use tax to be used as allowed by State Statute – including funding of an E911 system, as well as other needed healthcare and emergency services?”

According to the public notice, the hearing will provide an opportunity for the public to discuss the pros and cons of the proposed tax.

Residents who wish to express support for or opposition to the proposed resolution may also submit a written statement to the Sanpete County Clerk’s Office.

The proposed tax is being presented as a potential source of funding for rural healthcare and emergency services. The ballot language specifically identifies funding for an E911 system, while also allowing funds to be used for other healthcare and emergency services as permitted by Utah law.

The public hearing is part of the county’s process of providing residents with information and an opportunity to comment on the proposal.
