NCAA Track Championships: BYU’s Carter Cutting and Isaac Hedengren make the podium

EUGENE, Ore. – Isaac Hedengren and Carter Cutting podiumed with eighth place finishes in the 5000-meter and 1500-meter respectively on the third day of the NCAA Outdoor National Championships at Hayward Field Friday.

Cutting finished on the podium in eighth in a time of 3:38.10 to earn First Team All-American honors. The junior qualified for the final race after taking second overall in the semifinal with his 3:35.95 finish Wednesday. The Wilsonville, Oregon product ends his decorated season scoring one point for the BYU men’s team.

Hedengren added another point for the Cougars in the 5000m where he crossed the line in eighth overall in 13:48.84 to join Cutting in claiming First Team All-American honors. The junior from Provo, Utah came into the meet ranked 28th nationally qualifying for the final race after taking eighth at the West Regionals meet two weeks ago.

Hedengren competed alongside freshman teammate Tayvon Kitchen who finished 14th in the final to earn Second Team All-American honors. Kitchen, who holds the BYU school record in the event, came across in 13:57.42.

The Cougars end the meet with one national title and two podium finishers, scoring 12 points and tying for 21st with Ohio State. Arkansas was crowned the team national champion with 56 points.
