Fairview City pays homage to pioneer heritage

Fairview City and residents pay homage to their pioneer ancestors throughout the year but especially during Pioneer Days. This year, events run from Thursday, July 17 through Saturday, July 26.

Events begin with the annual Fairview Follies, a rollicking vaudeville-type show, Lil’ Abner, with singing, dancing, etc., July 17 and 18, at 7 p.m., in the Petersen Dance Hall, 51 North State Street. The event is sponsored by North Bend Entertainers.

Saturday, July 19, there will be a golf tournament at Skyline Mountain Resort with start time of 8 a.m. The annual horse parade will take place on State Street at 7 p.m., beginning on the north end of town, followed by the Pioneer Rodeo at the arena at 8 p.m. Children under the age of two are admitted at no cost.

There will be a kids rodeo at 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, in the arena south of town. Tickets available at the gate. Also, there will be a youth dance in the Petersen Dance Hall at 7 p.m. The annual ATV Rodeo will be held at 7 p.m., in the arena is scheduled for Wednesday, July 23. Tickets available at the gate.

Thursday, July 24, Pioneer Day, dawns early with a 6 a.m. fireman’s wake-up siren. Now that people are up, they can head over to sign up for the 5k Fun Run at 6:30 a.m., or the flag raising ceremony at the Fairview Museum of History and Art, sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars at 7 a.m.

Also at 7 a.m., there will be the fireman’s breakfast at the city park. A craft fair and boutique will offer items for sale on Center Street beginning at 9 a.m. and the annual Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP) program will be held in the Petersen Dance Hall.

Have a spot saved along State Street for the kids motorized parade at 10:15 a.m., kids walking parade at 10:30 a.m. and the Pioneer Days parade at 11 a.m. Following the mammoth parade head over to the city park for the EMT lunch.

At 1 p.m., Fairview Idol will take place in the dance hall and a vintage car show at Fairview Museum of History and Art. There will games and kids old fashioned games at city park.

The bright, and noisy, dusty, spot of the celebration is the long-awaited demolition derby in the arena at 8 p.m. No coolers, alcohol or pets are allowed. All seating is reserved and even infants and babies require a ticket. Spectacular fireworks will follow the derby.

It’s not over yet. Friday and Saturday, July 25 and 26, there will be softball, volleyball and horseshoe tournaments. Call Fairview City Hall at (435) 427-3858 for more information.
