Manti City bustles with activities throughout summer
Manti City is the county seat of Sanpete County, the home of the Manti High School Templars and site of the LDS Temple Hill where the annual Mormon Miracle Pageant takes place from June 19 until June 28. The city is also the home of the famous Rat Fink Museum, built in honor of ‘Big Daddy’ Ed Roth. The Rat Fink Reunion is held June 5 through 7.
Manti City will begin celebrating the Fourth of July in a big way with the Miss Independence Pageant at the Eva Beal Auditorium June 26, at 6 p.m. Other events include ‘Ring Out For Freedom’ at the American Legion Hall from 6 to 7 a.m. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to take turns ringing the bell.
The American Legion hosts a breakfast in the city park east pavilion from 7 to 10 a.m. and the 5k run/walk and kids one-mile run will begin at 7 a.m. A new family event, a bike ride/race, will begin at 8 a.m.
A patriotic program and flag ceremony will be at the stage in the park at 10 a.m., followed at 10:30 with the Little Mr. and Miss Fourth of July and fashion show. Booths open at the park at 11 a.m., with local entertainment and games until 3 p.m., and a three-legged race at 11:30 a.m.
There will be a potato sack race, horseshoe tournament, candy scramble, money in the hay, egg toss, watermelon bust, greased pole climb and tug-of-war from Noon to 3 p.m.
Free swimming is offered at the Aquatic Center beginning at 3:30 p.m. Sign up for the tennis tournament at 3:30 p.m., or enjoy watching at 4 p.m. On the baseball diamond, there will be a Heritage Homerun Derby at 6 p.m., and the parade will begin at 7 p.m.
Following the parade, there will be games, a Mr. Man contest, program and fireworks at Manti High School stadium to bring to close a spectacular Fourth of July.
The Arapeen Trails are accessible and the site of the annual ATV Run Jamboree, Aug. 14 through 16. Last but not least, is the Sanpete County Fair, scheduled for Aug. 15 through 23.
