80th Ute Stampede brings fun, excitement and entertainment to Nephi

By Staff | May 21, 2014

Nephi will welcome visitors from around the county to the 80th Ute Stampede Thursday through Saturday. July 10-12 for three fun-filled days.

The Ute Stampede Rodeo is a PRCA sanctioned Rodeo that is traditionally held the second week of July in Nephi. It’s a perfect time for a celebration, before the grain harvest and hauling in the meadow hay. The cattle are on the mountain and the first crop of hay is up.

From humble beginnings in 1934, the Ute Stampede has grown into one of Utah’s largest celebrations, a first class rodeo featuring the Flying U Rodeo Company headed by Cotton Rosser, for 58 years rodeo’s most colorful producer with great horses, bulls and bullfighters, Louie Jones and Aaron Hargo.

Make plans now to come to Nephi for this fun, family-friendly celebration with plenty to do for the entire family.

There will be craft shows, trap shooting, fun run, horseshoe tournament, car show, baby contest and don’t forget the Lions Club chuckwagon breakfast and much more.

The grandstand on the west side of the arena was rebuilt in 2009, complete with a concession stand and new restrooms. The new seats are wheelchair accessible with companion seats located next to the wheelchair spots.

Thursday is Family Night, children under 12 are admitted to general admission sections for a reduced price when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Specialty acts for the stampede include motorcycles and fireworks nightly; Troy Lerwill, six-time PRCA Comedy Act Of The Year and three-time NFR barrelman and two-time Coors Man In The Can. Kent Lane will jump into the arena with a giant American Flag in the Patriotic Opening Ceremony.

Announcer Mike Mathis calls the action on horseback fom the arena floor. he has been voted one of the top five PRCA announcers. Mathis has announced the Dodge National Circuit Finals, Texas Circuit finals and has also been an alternate at the WNFR.

Starting at $4.32/week.
