Freedom rings out as Manti celebrates July 4

Manti will begin its July 4 festivities with the annual ringing of the Freedom Bell at the American Legion Hall on Main Street from 6 to 7 a.m. Everyone is welcome to come and help ring the bell.

At 6:30 a.m., registration will take place at the west pavilion at the city park for the 5K Run/Walk and Kids’ one mile run. The race begins at 7 a.m.

Also from 7 to 10 a.m., the American Legion breakfast will be served at the Manti City Park at the east pavilion.

Bike decorating will take place at 9 a.m., followed by the Bike Ride/Race at the northeast corner of the park.

At 10 a.m., the patriotic program will be held with the flag raising by the Boy Scouts of America. The grand marshal will speak and the Miss 4th of July royalty will be presented.

At 10 a.m., signups will be held for the children’s fashion show, with the show starting at 10:30 a.m., hosted by Miss Manti with Miss 4th of July reading descriptions.

Get ready for the booths to open at the park at 11 a.m. Also from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., games will begin in one-half hour increments beginning with foot races, three-legged race, horseshoe tournament, potato sack race, candy scramble, money in the hay, egg toss and greased pole contest. Then at 1:30 p.m., signup for the watermelon bust and tug-of-war to be held at 3 p.m.

From 3 to 5 p.m., free swimming at the Aquatic Center, 64 West 500 North, music and games.

At 3:30 p.m., signups will be taken at the Manti High School tennis courts, 100 West 500 North, with the tournament beginning at 4 p.m.

At 5 p.m., the Heritage Homerun Derby will be held at the Manti High School Ballfield.

Lineup at the Manti Sixth LDS Ward, 295 South Main, for the big parade at 6:30 p.m. The parade will start at 7 p.m.

To end the fun-filled day, at 8 p.m., entertainment and fireworks will be held at Manti High School Stadium, 100 West 500 North.
