Fun all summer at Spring City’s events

Spring City is home to several events this summer. Heritage Day returns, the Fourth Annual Pet Show runs in town, Pioneer Day celebrations, Bluegrass Festival, Plein Air Art Competition and artist studio tours.

Heritage Day

Heritage Day celebrations actually start on Friday night, May 25, from 5 — 8 p.m., when the sneak peek at antiques and original paintings that go on sale Saturday morning, takes place in the Spring City Community Center (SCCC), 45 South 100 East. There is an entry fee.

Then events continue all day long on Saturday, May 26, starting at 8 a.m., with breakfast and coffee at the SCCC, 45 South 100 East,

A bake sale will take place at 8:30 a.m., at the Main Street Museum, 46 North Main. The Main Street Museum houses most of the historical records for research in Spring City. It is open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and by appointment. For more information call Carla Nelson at (940) 224-0857.

That Saturday, an art auction and sale will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be antiques, crafts, music and food. Historic home tours will be available from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

From 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Food trucks will be onsite providing a variety of items for sale. Lunch will also be available from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at Spring City LDS Church, 164 South Main.

Brian Stucki, world renowned tenor, will be performing three, free mini-concerts at 11 a.m., 12 noon, and 1 p.m., at the same Spring City LDS Church, which is on the historic register and worth seeing.

Annual Pet Show

In June, Spring City hosts the Fourth Annual Pet Show on Monday, June 4. All are encouraged to come, watch or participate in show. It will be held in the city park, 100 East 50 South. Bring pets and a chair to sit on. Be sure animals are on leashes.

Pioneer Days

Pioneer Days, for Spring City, will take place July 20-24. On Friday, July 20, from 8:30-10:30 p.m., the annual Family Street Dance will take place on Main Street. This year the band will be “Junction 89.”

The evening of Saturday, July 21, come to the city park, 100 East 50 South, for a concert featuring “Ophir Creek.” While there check out the Ice Cream Social. Best bring a chair to rest in while enjoying the evening.

Sunday, July 22, all locals and visitors are welcome to enjoy some gospel music during the Old Time Gospel Music Revival, 7 p.m., in the Spring City Bowery, 100 East 50 South. Folks will need to bring chairs.

Monday, July 23, at 7 p.m., will be the presentation of the Saga of Spring City in the city park, bring chairs.

Tuesday, July 24, is Utah’s Pioneer Day. Spring City festivities will begin with a Fun Run/Walk at 7 a.m., starting at the park. From 7 a.m.-9 a.m., the Fireman’s Breakfast will be available for the hungry.

Then stroll down with chairs to Main Street where the annual Mammoth Parade will begin at 10 a.m. No parking is allowed on Main Street. After the parade there will be fun and games in the park from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Activities include pioneer games for all ages, a horseshoe tournament, music in the park, lunch in the park and hand-made crafts. Be sure to bring a chair to sit on at the park.

During the fun and games, from 11-3 p.m., it is expected that the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP) Museum, will be open, located within the Spring City Community Center, 45 South 100 East. It is normally open Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information call Carla Nelson (940) 224-0857.

Bluegrass, Folk Festival

Visitors should plan to come back to Spring City in August for the Bluegrass and Folk Festival that takes place the weekend of August 3-4, at the Spring City Community Center and city park, 100 East 50 South. There will be music, art, crafts, old car show and food.

Open mic Aug. 3, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and music show from 1-10 p.m. Then on Saturday Aug. 4, 11 a.m.-10 p.m., there will be more music, with a car show from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Plein Air

Later on in August, the Plein Air Painting Competition begins Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 8 a.m. and continues for four days after which the paintings are all turned in on Aug. 31, for judging.

On Aug. 31, from 7-9 p.m., the Plein Air Art Show Preview and reception for the artists and visitors will be held at Spring City Arts Gallery, 79 South Main.

Then on Saturday, Sept. 1, from dawn till 10 a.m., a Quick Paint event will be held on Spring City’s Main Street. The winning artist awards will be announced at 10 a.m., which is also the time when studio tours will begin.

The Artist Studio Tours take place on Saturday, Sept. 1. Tickets to take the tour go on sale at 9 a.m., and can be purchased at Spring City Arts Gallery, 79 South Main.

All of the Plein Air art will be exhibited at the gallery and on sale from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. While art created during the morning Quick Paint event will be sold in a live auction from 11 a.m.-12 noon.
