Ready to take your shooting to the next level? Plan your next shot at Next Shot Precision, an Orem precision gun store specializing in unusual, custom and extremely accurate guns and shooting equipment.
“You will truly have a different experience here than any other place,” said Jim Cannon, co-owner of Next Shot Precision, located at 768 N. 1200 West, Orem. “We have great beginner price points, but let’s show you what’s next.”
Cannon and Mark Schroeppel, Next Shot’s other co-owner, have been assisting local shooters in creating customized guns for more than five years. Both work in the real estate business and became friends, discovered their shared interest in shooting and started Next Shot Precision together in 2018.
At first, they operated the business out of a small Orem office. “It was word-of-mouth only. It was very small,” Cannon said.
Cannon frequently competes in long-distance shooting competitions and Schroeppel’s interest lies in hunting. However, both were interested in helping friends obtain higher-end shooting products and accessories — items other area gun stores did not offer.
“It kind of stemmed from our friendship and getting into competitions and knowing that there is this whole world that local gun shops and corporate gun shops weren’t tapping into,” Cannon said. “We want to bring in the freshest and coolest stuff and really look out for what’s next.”
Their new store is filled with specialized, niche-market products that buyers won’t find elsewhere at a wide range of prices. “Our location here is mostly full of things that you don’t see in other gun stores,” Cannon said. “We want to serve the masses, but we also want to show the masses what they’re missing out on.”
Their stock includes gun parts such as bolt actions, barrels, stocks, rifle chassis — everything needed to build the perfect long-range precision rifle. Knowledgeable staff members are there to guide customers through every step of their custom build, and they can meet any budget.
“We’re kind of like a Build-a-Bear Workshop but for precision rifles,” Cannon said. “You pick each part of the firearm and make it truly custom and truly your own.”
The store carries a large collection of silencers and can assist customers through the entire process of applying for the required ATF permit in 20 minutes. Cannon said in the past, the approval process has taken more than a year, but currently, the ATF can grant approval in as little as two days.
Next Shot also offers a variety of unusual electronic items such as ballistic calculators that assist long-range shooters through assessing wind speed and other weather conditions.
Handguns are available at Next Shot, from basic guns in the $200 range to amazing, high-end pieces priced at over $6,000 and beyond.
“We want to be the concierge service for customized shooting,” Cannon said. “We give you our full attention and walk you through what you need and what you don’t need. That’s a big part of our core values — taking care of the customers.”
Next Shot Precision will host a formal grand opening event at its Orem location (768 N. 1200 West) on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be food, prize giveaways and product demonstrations. Those attending will be able to try out the store’s shooting simulator, which utilizes adapted airsoft guns. Guests can also try out night vision goggles and thermal optics devices.
Next Shot also offers ongoing shooting classes, including long-range shooting and introductions to night vision and thermal optics.
