BYU's Lauren Gustin pulls down a rebound during a Big 12 women's basketball game at UCF on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024.

IRVING, Texas — BYU women’s basketball forward Lauren Gustin has been named the Big 12 Co-Player of the Week, earning conference weekly honors for the second straight week.

The reigning Big 12 Player of the Week averaged 27.5 points on a 63.2-percent clip while recording 16.5 rebounds, 5.5 on the offensive glass, a steal, an assist and 0.5 blocks per game on the week. With the conference’s announcement today, Gustin became the first player this season to earn at least a share of the Big 12 Player of the Week award in back-to-back weeks.

Gustin opened the week by leading the Cougars to a 64-60 road victory over the UCF Knights in Orlando for BYU’s third-straight win and second-consecutive road victory. In the win, Gustin went 11-for-17 from the floor for 22 points while grabbing 15 rebounds, a steal and dishing an assist in the win.

Then on Saturday, Gustin single-handedly kept the BYU in the game against Kansas before ultimately falling 70-62. In the first meeting between the Jayhawks and Cougars, Taiyanna Jackson dominated the Cougars with 25 points and 22 rebounds while limiting Gustin to a 10-10 double-double.

In the second meeting on Saturday, Gustin came back with a vengeance as the nation’s leading rebounder held Jackson to just two points and four rebounds while scoring a career-high 33 points on 13-of-21 shooting. Gustin also dominated the glass with 18 rebounds, eight on the offensive glass, a steal and a block against the Jayhawks.

Gustin and the Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday as they host the TCU Horned Frogs at the Marriott Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the game broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. Fans can also tune in to live play-by-play with Jason Shepherd on BYU Radio 107.9, BYURadio.org and the BYU Radio app.
