UVU men’s hoops adds Taitz
Utah Valley head coach Todd Phillips has announced that former Stanford and LMU standout Noah Taitz has transferred to Utah Valley and will play for the Wolverines this upcoming season.
“We are thrilled to welcome Noah to the Wolverine family,” said Phillips. “His incredible sharpshooting skills and resilience through adversity make him a standout addition to our team. As a four-star recruit straight out of high school, Noah has always been a natural scorer. We have no doubt he will make an immediate impact and elevate our program to new heights.”
Taitz, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard, transfers to Utah Valley from LMU, where he appeared in five games. Taitz did not play the 2022-23 season due to an injury. He played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Stanford, where he played in 38 games over the two seasons (2020-22).
The Las Vegas native prepped at Bishop Gorman High School, where he was an ESPN four-star recruit and a three-star recruit by 247Sports and Rivals. He was the 22nd-ranked shooting guard in the nation. He led BGHS to four straight Nevada state championships and was an All-State selection as a sophomore and a junior. He helped Bishop Gorman to a No. 14 national ranking. Taitz played for Vegas Elite on the AAU circuit.
Taitz will join the Wolverines for the 2024-25 season.
Wolverines post 2024 women’s volleyball schedule
Utah Valley women’s volleyball head coach Sam Atoa has announced the 2024 schedule for the Wolverines. UVU will see four teams that competed in the NCAA Tournament and two teams that competed in the NIVC Tournament in 2024.
“I am excited for the challenge that lies ahead. We have a new team that is committed and determined to be our best. We look forward to the process that will help us be a championship team,” Atoa said.
The Wolverines open the 2024 campaign inside Lockhart Arena by hosting the Utah Valley Invitational on Aug 30-31. The four-team tournament features Eastern Washington from the Big Sky and a pair of former WAC foes in CSU Bakersfield and Kansas City. The Roos finished last season in a four-way tie atop the Summit League and competed in the postseason in the NIVC.
Utah Valley will travel for two tournaments this season. The first will take them to Missoula, Mont., for matches on Sep 5-7, starting with the host Montana before neutral site contests with Southern Miss and Boise State.
The following weekend, they will make their first trip to the Peach State for the Classic City Clash in Athens, Ga. The Wolverines will see three opponents for the first time in program history, starting with Jacksonville (Sep 13) before meeting a pair of Power 5 foes on Sep 14, starting with the ACC’s Boston College and wrapping up with the host Georgia. The Bulldogs participated in the postseason after a 19-12 overall finish before losing to Arizona State in Provo.
The preseason schedule concludes with three matches against in-state foes, who all made the NCAA Tournament last season. UVU will host the defending Big Sky Tournament Champions, Weber State Wildcats, on Sep. 17 inside Lockhart Arena. They will then face trips to Logan, Utah, on Sep 19 for a showdown with Utah State before a short trip to Provo to take on BYU on Sep 21.
“Our pre-season is tough, but it will help prepare us to be our best during our conference matches,” Atoa said. “I can’t wait to see this team compete. They will be an exciting team to watch.”
The Wolverines play a double round-robin in WAC action with 16 matches this season, beginning with a road trip to Cal Baptist (Sept. 26) and Seattle U (Sept. 30).
The WAC Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 21-23 at UT Arlington.
